Spunbond non-woven fabrics include spunbond (polypropylene, polyester, polyethylene, polyamide and bicomponent fibers), meltblown (polypropylene), SMS (spunbond/meltblown/spunbond polypropylene) and others material. Since 2010, spunbond has a higher growth rate in all processes, reaching an annual growth rate of 8.5% from 2010 to 2015. This allows spunbond to expand its advantage over the second largest non-woven process dry process. The consumption of dry-laid nonwovens increased from 2.9 million tons in 2010 to 3.4 million tons in 2015. It is expected that by 2020, spunbond will have a higher growth rate in all non-woven processes (except for the 'other' category), and will reach an annual growth rate of 73% from 2015 to 2020. This high growth rate reflects that consumption is recovering from the 2008 economic crisis, especially in Western Europe. Global demand is expected to return to the right track in 2020, which will usher in the next healthy global economic cycle. Smithers predicts that the total consumption of spunbond nonwovens will reach 6.2 million tons in 2020.
