The rapid development of Southeast Asia's textile industry What is the prospect of my country's textile and garment industry?

Since 1994, China's textile and clothing exports have consistently ranked first in the world. After more than 20 years of leadership, China's production costs inevitably rise. At this time, countries such as Vietnam and India began to show cost advantages. The global textile industry has begun a new round of transfer to South Asia and Southeast Asia. As a pioneer in opening up, how will China's textile industry evaluate the new changes it has encountered and how will China's textile industry find new development paths? The reporter interviewed the China National Textile and Apparel Council. There are chasers, but they are not behind. With the rise of Southeast Asia's textile industry, will China's textile industry be threatened? In this regard, Hua Shan, deputy director of the Institute of Industrial Economics of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, said that at present, China’s total textile fiber processing accounts for more than half of the world’s total, and textile and apparel exports account for more than one-the third in the world, with the most complete Modern textile manufacturing and service system. 'At this stage, China's textile industry still has obvious advantages in terms of development scale, supply chain system and international competitiveness, and it is not fully threatened by any country or region. At the same time, Huashan pointed out that we still need to face the reality and trend of the rapid development of the textile industry in Southeast Asia, South Asia and other countries. 'For example, in Vietnam, their textile and garment workers earn about 2,000 yuan a month, which is about one-third of their Chinese counterparts. The average price of industrial electricity and water is only half of China's. The value-added tax rate is only 10% and once local employees reach a certain number, income tax is exempted or reduced by half. Huashan said that some countries in Southeast Asia and South Asia, relying on labor, raw materials, electricity prices, tax rates and other cost advantages, have good international competitiveness in the field of cotton textile and knitted garment processing. Although the products are mainly concentrated in the low-end, they are still very competitive. Some domestic textile companies compete directly. According to data from the World Trade Organization, although China’s share of textiles and clothing exports in the international market still ranks first in the world, it has declined since 2016. In contrast, countries such as India, Vietnam, and Bangladesh have seen their share of textile and clothing industries decline. Increase in exports. Among them, Vietnam is growing rapidly, and its export share in 2017 was 4.6%. From 2010 to 2017, the annual growth rate of Vietnam's textile and apparel exports reached 17.4%, while that of China was only 4.4%. 'Although these countries maintain a competitive relationship with China in the international export market, they have also formed a close cooperative relationship in the development of the industrial chain,' she said. On the one hand, due to the limited carrying capacity of China’s resources and environment, rising production costs and the need for domestic enterprises to accelerate international development, in recent years, some Chinese enterprises have invested in Southeast Asia, South Asia and other places to establish a batch of yarn and garment processing and production bases. Domestic upstream and downstream enterprises have formed an industrial chain supporting cooperative relationship, and'China Southeast Asia' has gradually entered the new international pattern of China's textile manufacturing industry. On the other hand, the industrial systems of these countries are not yet perfect, especially the weak links in chemical fiber, dyeing and finishing, and equipment. Need to import a large number of chemical fibers, facial accessories and textile equipment. China is an important driving force for the growth of China's textile and textile machinery exports. In general, although South Asia, Southeast Asia and other countries have rapidly increased their share in the international market, the gap with China is still very large. In addition, despite the rapid development of labor-intensive links in textile production in Southeast Asia and South Asia, technology-intensive and capital-intensive high-value-added links still mainly rely on China, which does not pose a threat to China. China is at this stage. However, China's textile industry still needs to face increasingly severe international competition. The massive investment in science and technology has alleviated the cost pressure of production. With the weakening of labor cost advantages, Chinese textile and apparel brands can also obtain a strong market premium, which is the return of insisting on technological innovation for many years.
