These nanofibers create a labyrinth of fibers with pores smaller than the particles in the incoming air stream. The particles are deposited and left on the surface of the fine nanofiber mesh, allowing users to clean the filter by throwing off loose particles on the surface or using an automatic cleaning air recoil system. The market is growing rapidly and is becoming an important market area. All major suppliers of air filters for the automotive and dust collection markets have adopted internal manufacturing processes or have obtained nanofiber media from external suppliers. According to the latest statistics, more than 30 companies worldwide have adopted the electrospinning manufacturing process, but only a few have a considerable commercial scale. Many people aim to produce a heavier independent nanofiber web of 15 to 90 g/m2 without a cellulose or polyester base substrate. The main goal is to create filter media to fill better micron grade gap meltblown media and microporous membranes. Some manufacturers try to simulate the micron scale of microporous membranes at higher flow rates. Considering the manufacturing cost, the relatively low electrospinning production speed is very suitable for the substrate in the lightweight cover layer. Dust collection and engine intake filters, because these applications require only a few grams of fiber to cover the base substrate. Therefore, the heavier electrospun web remains a challenge because of its low process yield and high production cost compared to other filter media options.
